Talks

I love to educate and agitate about bodies, sexuality, and culture, and I’d love to come do just that on your campus sometime this winter or spring.

Want to book a talk? Contact Soapbox, Inc.

For 2013, I'm offering talks in two exciting streams, one on body image and body respect, the other on the history and politics of mainstream sexuality. All events are customized to the needs of your campus and students.

Hanne Blank talks Big Big Love with Tristan Taormino on Sex Out Loud.

There Is No Wrong Way To Have A Body!
With the release of my new The Unapologetic Fat Girl's Guide to Exercise and Other Incendiary Acts coming out in January from Ten Speed Press, a companion to my "cult classic" Big Big Love: A Sex and Relationships Guide for People of Size and Those Who Love Them, I'm primed to talk about why and how there is no wrong way to have a body. This means straight talk about bodies and body image, size-positivity, cultivating healthy relationships to exercise and sex, coping with beauty pressure, and how people of all sizes and genders can learn to love and respect their bodies better.
Great for: Body Image Awareness Month (February), National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 24 – March 2), International No Diet Day (May 6)

The Secret History of Your Sex Life
As the author of the critically acclaimed Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Heterosexuality and Virgin: The Untouched History, I’ve got a unique, in-depth take on why mainstream sexuality in our culture looks the way it does today. How did we get from arranged marriages to hookups, from the Virgin Mary to The 40 Year Old Virgin, and end up with a culture that somehow manages to encompass both the (in)famous Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (of the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting) and deliberately childfree polyamorists … and labels them all simply as “straight”? Our sexual history isn’t just in the past! It lives on in our bedrooms, our heads, our hearts, and between our legs.
Great for: Women’s History Month (March), Vulva Health Awareness Month (March)
